Salina, KS – Residents are encouraged to celebrate National and Kansas Bike Month with two upcoming opportunities to get out and ride in Salina.
Free rides on the KANcycle bike share system are now available through the end of May using the promo code “bikemay26”. This promo code is good for the Salina, Lindsborg, and Coffeyville locations in the KANcycle service area.
The promotion is intended to encourage more people to try biking for transportation, recreation, errands, and short trips around the community. Bikes are easy to check out. Riders need to download the Movatic app, find a rack with an available bike, enter the promo code on the payment screen, and start riding. To end the ride, the process is reversed.
In addition, community members are invited to participate in a Slow Roll Bike Ride on Thursday evening, 6 p.m., meeting at the KANcycle hub at 7th & Walnut in downtown Salina. The ride is designed to be a casual, social group ride that welcomes riders of all ages. Minors should be accompanied by an adult. Riders should feel comfortable to ride on the street and be able to maneuver and stop and start safely. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets and enjoy a relaxed ride through the community. KANcycle bikes will be available to check out as well.
“Bike Month is about helping people see that biking can be a simple, fun, and practical way to get around the community,” said Michelle Coats, Director of Mobility Management for North Central Kansas. “Offering free KANcycle rides and community events like the Slow Roll helps make biking more accessible for everyone.”
Bike Month is celebrated each May to promote bicycling as a healthy, affordable, and fun transportation option that supports stronger and more connected communities.
