Salina, Kansas – OCCK Transportation customers will benefit from new bus stop time table signs. New time table signs have been installed in the transit system that will make it even easier for riders to use transit in Salina.
Claire Mullen, Director of Mobility Management, participated in Leadership Salina in 2018. Through this opportunity, Mullen and 3 other participants of the class, Amy Schreiner, Advantage Trust Company, Cami Dinkel, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Kyle Tonniges, Salina Police Department, selected their group project to provide CityGo with time table signs at their bus stop locations.
Previously, passengers would either have to call into the office, have a paper map, or within the last year use their smart phone to access Google or Apple maps. By adding these signs, riders will be able to walk up to a stop and view times of that specific route and also view a map of all routes. The timetable signs also have a required educational component. On the back, they will have historical photos with information and an activity to do while they wait for the bus.
Mullen says about the project, “We have many requests from customers to have more helpful information at our bus stops and it is really exciting to finally be able to not only add the bus information but provide something for customers to do while they wait for the bus. We hope by adding these signs it will enhance the overall experience of our current riders and hopefully attract new riders also!”
Participants of the Leadership Salina class are able to apply for a grant through the Greater Salina Community Foundation to fund their projects. Mullen, Schreiner, Dinkel, and Tonniges applied and received a $3,000 grant that was used to design the signs, purchase the materials, and print the signs. The design portion of the signs was done by Michael Freeland of Mr Freeland Designs, who is also a graduate of Leadership Salina.
Schreiner said, “Our Leadership Salina group is excited to partner with OCCK Transportation, Greater Salina Community Foundation, and Mr Freeland Designs to fill the need for CityGo time table signs while also creating an educational, interactive activity for all ages on the reverse side.”
