CityGo® Honored with National Transit Award

SALINA, KS – OCCK was honored nationally for the second time in as many years for its work in transportation services and for the growth and success of CityGo – the city’s fixed-route transit bus system, which expanded to include a fourth route earlier this year.

At an awards presentation Aug. 31, OCCK’s Transportation Department accepted a Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) “Excellence in Service for Most Increase in Ridership” award for 2009-2010. The award, which was presented during the 19th annual National Conference on Rural Public and Intercity Bus Transportation, has been presented for outstanding public service to rural transit systems each year since 1984. CityGo also won the award in 2008-2009.

“We’re so proud of our staff, crew, and everyone at OCCK who works in transportation,” said Debbie Atkinson, Transportation Coordinator at OCCK. “We have high standards for the quality of service we provide; so far, we’re exceeding those standards.”

CityGo is on pace to serve 150,000 riders this year, averaging more than 3,500 passengers each week including 750 or more on busy weekdays.

OCCK is committed to providing transportation services to persons with disabilities, seniors, and the general public through a variety of programs and throughout 14 Kansas counties. Over time, OCCK has expanded its transportation services so that more people in Central Kansas can get to work, doctor’s appointments, the hospital, and more.

OCCK Transportation services are among the best of their kind in the Midwest. Services include: Salina’s CityGo fixed route system (full service coming Dec. 1); Paratransit on-demand service; Non-Emergency Medical Transportation service anywhere in Kansas for Medicaid patients; Intercity (NCK Express) service to and from Ellsworth/Salina and Belleville/Salina; and Cloud County Public Transportation.
